Shish Taouk

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces boneless chicken breast, chopped into cubes
  • 4 metal/bamboo skewers
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 6 cloves of garlic, peeled and smashed
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp all spice powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

  • In a bowl, add the yoghurt, olive oil, lemon juice, 6 smashed garlic cloves, tomato puree, paprika, five spice powder, cinnamon, garlic powder, ginger powder, oregano, pepper, salt and nutmeg. Mix to combine.
  • Add the cubed chicken breast to the mixture and let it marinade for at least 1 hour, but preferably 4 hours.
  • Once done, place them on skewers.
  • Cook on a griddle pan for 15 minutes (keep rotating the skewers and make sure to get the charred marks).
  • Once cooked through, serve with some garlic toum or tzatziki and za’atar pita bread.
